Students from Kazahstan at the Faculty of Arts

MEETING OF DEAN OF FACULTY OF ARTS WITH STUDENTS FROM KAZAKHSTAN ON DECEMBER 14, 201.

Within the framework of an international agreement between University of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava and the Arkalyk State Pedagogical Institute, 4 students were studying at the Department of English and American Studies in the winter semester.

We have been happy to welcoming them to our University and wish them a happy return to Kazakhstan.

One of the students told about us:

I heard about University of SS. cyril and Methodius in Trnava (UCM) first during my 1st year of study in Kazakhstan. Our institute organized a meeting with international guests and all the students were invited. I heard about UCM and we were told that it was possible to study here so I got interested. Firstly, I think it is a great opportunity to gain an experience of living and studying in Europe. Secondly, all lessons are taught in English, which is great for me and improving my speaking skills. Third, we met new people here and made new friends.

The language of instruction at UCM was English. We did not take part in Slovak Language Course. Anyway, during living and studying here we have learnt many words in Slovak. I would like to mention that the level of study at UCM is high. We can see a slight difference from the system of education in our country. Firstly, here at UCM I can choose what subjects I want to study. Secondly, we like the assessment methods. Also, it would be fair to mention that all the teachers are high-qualified, they always create a friendly and working atmosphere during classes. Exams consist of written and oral part, which is good as for students to gain enough knowledge, as for teachers to get enough basis for evaluating student’s skills.

I lived in UCM dormitory, in a room for three people. The room is bright, warm and clean. I did not experience any problem with the accommodation. I had everything I needed: hot water, individual fridge, non-limited access to Internet (Wi-Fi), a kitchen (sometimes we find it very small for many “hungry” students). The man at the reception is very kind and friendly. Whenever we had a problem, he was always ready to help. The level of our satisfaction with the accommodation and its price – 10/10.

I am quite satisfied with the accessibility of study materials, we were always welcomed at the library. All study rooms are well-equipped, it was comfortable to attend lessons in such rooms. On the ground floor of our dormitory there is a room with computers and access to Internet, so whenever I needed to use one, I could come anytime. Also, in case I need to print some study materials, I did not have to go far away: there is a printing machine in the same room with computers. I find it really useful. The canteen is quite big, there is enough space for everyone and I think that 2 euro is a good price for a delicious lunch.

During lessons teachers organized their classes in such a way where we could communicate not only with Slovak students, but also with other international students. Also, the fact that we lived in a university dormitory we made friends with many students from other countries: Turkey, Spain, Ukraine, Russia.
Transport around Slovakia was free because we had ISIC cards. I think it is very useful card, especially if you are an international student and you can save money. Mostly, we cooked at dormitory, so I can say that food is quite expensive in local markets, but still we could find markets with less prices. The quality of food here was very high. The university canteen is also great and serves delicious lunches. The weather is different from Kazakhstan, but we liked that it was very warm during September and October. People are kind here. The first days we were walking around the city, we asked people to tell us the right way to go to a particular place, they were happy to help. All cultural events are also well-organized. The event I liked the most is Christmas market and every weekend there is a concert or other event at the main square.

All I can say that I had the most amazing time here at UCM. All people were kind and ready to help. I found new friends, I had a chance to visit other countries. I improved my English a lot. I have never lived in a dormitory before, so this was my first experience and I really enjoyed it. I had only positive moments during my stay at University of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava.
