Statement by the Rector of UCM in Trnava on the current situation

Management of the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, in close cooperation with the deans of faculties, issued a number of measures and regulations concerning the current situation regarding the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus. These are summarized on the website https://www.ucm.sk/sk/aktuality/detail/2402/ and are updated as is necessary.

We would like to reassure our 5200 students and over 500 employees that we are considering all alternatives for successfully completing the planned lessons and completing the summer semester. We are particularly sensitive to the concerns of end-of-year students, as it will be with the final works, the dates of the state exams and graduations.

In our future decisions, we are bound by the obligation to respect the regulations and measures of the Government of the Slovak Republic. These will certainly be based on a current epidemiological situation that is difficult to predict. One of the likely scenarios is an extension of the national quarantine, which in our conditions would represent a further postponement of contact teaching. Therefore, we encourage our students to self-discipline, self-study, e-learning and use the daily routine for education and exam preparation. Do not consider the interruption of the contact form of education as a holiday.

The best scientific capacities around the world are working on research into the drug effective against coronavirus COVID-19. One of them is prof. Stanislav Mietruš, a member of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava, who, in cooperation with Italian and Slovak colleagues, successfully participated in the development of drugs against malaria and HIV.

We believe that together we will manage not only the epidemic or pandemic, but also your education for the benefit of our society.
