SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR 2019 – RNDr. CYRIL RAJNÁK, PhD., PhD.

Extraordinary scientific success of a UCM graduate.

On 16th of June 2020, were announced the results of the 23rd annual awarding of prominent Slovak scientists, technologists and young researchers from all fields of science and technology - Scientist of the Year 2019.

In the category Young Scientist of the Year of the Slovak Republic, was awarded RNDr. Cyril RAJNÁK, PhD., PhD., From the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava.

Dr. Rajnák received his Bc., Mgr. and PhD. degrees at UCM in Trnava and another PhD. degree at the University of Strasbourg, France. He works scientifically in the field of inorganic / analytical chemistry in a top team consisting of prof. Ing. Roman Boča, DrSc., assoc prof. Ing. Dušan Valigura, PhD. and assoc. prof. Mgr. Ján Titiš, PhD. (future university professor). The discovered works concern the field of single-molecule, single-chain and single-ion magnets based on coordination compounds. These functional materials have application potential in recording technology of gigantic capacity - zetabits.

The competition Scientist of the Year 2019 of Slovak Republic is announced by the Center for Scientific and Technical Information of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Association of Slovak Scientific and Technical Societies. The aim of the event Scientist of the Year of the Slovak Republic is to professionally and socially highlight the most important personalities of scientific life, as well as the best achieved results in science and research in Slovakia.

For year 2019, awards were given in five categories:

  • Scientist of the Year SR
  • Young scientist
  • Innovator of the year
  • Technologist of the Year
  • Personality of international cooperation
