The American ambassador visited the UCM

On Wednesday, February 15, UCM welcomed the new US ambassador, Gautam Rana.

The United States of America actually celebrates Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, in February, so the university together with the US Embassy decided to bring this topic to our students. They prepared screening program of the documentary film High on the Hog - How African-American cuisine changed America.

It was followed by a discussion in which the students learned about the work of the ambassador and his stay in Slovakia, about African-American history and especially the influence of African culture on American culture. After the talk, the students could taste various American dishes, such as mac and cheese, burgers, ribs or chicken wings.

UCM rector, prof. Mgr. Katarína Slobodová Nováková, PhD. with vice-rectors doc. Mgr. Ildikó Matúšiková, PhD. and Mgr. Andrej Brník, PhD. together with the ambassador, opened topics such as: the exchange of knowledge with American universities, cooperation on scientific research projects, or the purchase of literature by American authors for the university library.

The university also maintains strategic partnerships with embassies of countries outside the EU, as we are aware of the importance of building cooperation with institutions not only from Europe but also from all over the world. We believe that this visit will also contribute positively to the increase of scientific research opportunities within both countries.
