At our university, you become a researcher during your studies.

The focus is on practical research, and you can choose from several programs such as applied informatics, biotechnology, applied biology, environmental protection, chemistry, and applied analytical chemistry.

Biotechnology is a field that is currently experiencing a boom. In addition to the scientific capacities in this area that you will encounter in theoretical lectures, you can be part of several breakthrough research projects. If you are concerned about the fate of our planet, you can focus on developing biodegradable plastics or researching enzymes that can break down pollutants in our environment. You can also contribute to the medical field by discovering antibiotics for very problematic and resistant hospital infections, in collaboration with an international team from Austria, Germany, the United States, and the Czech Republic. There is much more happening at the Department of Biotechnology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava, and if you want to find out more, all you have to do is submit an application.

At the Department of Ecochemistry and Radioecology, you can try your hand at working with state-of-the-art equipment in this field. At the Radioecology and Nuclear Analysis workplace, we have a scintillation gamma spectrometer that can measure nuclear and X-ray radiation. As the only university in Slovakia, we have a positron emission tomography scanner used in medicine, as well as many other professional instruments. Students can also collaborate with practice-oriented institutions, such as the Nuclear Decommissioning Company Bratislava, BIONT, the Research Institute of Nuclear Energy in Trnava, and the National Agricultural and Food Centre - Research Institute of Plant Production in Piešťany.

Chemistry enthusiasts can realize their potential in our expert laboratories. For example, the Department of Chemistry boasts a unique device in the laboratory of nuclear magnetic resonance that can quickly analyze the chemical structure of the substance under investigation. In addition to other professional laboratories, students also have the opportunity to complete a paid summer internship at the Polymer Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

Genetically modified foods are seen as the future for many people, which is why our biology department has a modern laboratory dedicated to research in this area. There is also a molecular biology laboratory and a proteomics laboratory, which quantifies proteins.

The computer science department provides students with fully equipped computer labs. There is no shortage of new technologies, including virtual reality, VR walk motion platforms, testing rooms, and much more. Education is provided not only within the schedule and courses, but students can also participate for free in educational activities provided by the world-renowned CISCO ACADEMY, where they can learn about networking technologies, routing protocols, and much more. Additionally, education is available to students through the Oracle Academy.
