The project, funded by the Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (VEGA), focuses on the scientific indexing of the Tirnauer Wochenblatt/Nagyszombati Hetilap weekly newspaper.

These newspapers were published from the beginning of 1869 until the last year of World War I (specifically until March 31, 1918), initially as a German-language publication and later increasingly as a Hungarian-language weekly. The news, reports, and advertisements represent a unique source of multilingual cultural and social life in the city of Trnava before World War I.

The research group, led by Prof. Dr. Dr. rer. nat. Georg Schuppener at the Department of German Studies, Faculty of Arts, UCM in Trnava, primarily focuses on the language of the newspaper texts. The periodical is also seen as part of Trnava's tradition as a publishing center. Researchers from Szeged (Hungary) and Innsbruck (Austria) are also involved in the project.

Individual newspaper prints are preserved not only in the archives of the Western Slovak Museum in Trnava and other Trnava institutions but also in the National Széchényi Library in Budapest and the International Newspaper Museum in Aachen. However, many annual volumes of the newspapers are not yet accessible anywhere.

The research team hopes that some of them will be found in private hands or in previously unknown locations in libraries and archives, as an important task of the research project is to document the newspapers to the fullest extent possible.
