MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION OF SLOVAK UNIVERSITIES IN THE CREATION OF THE CONSORTIUM OF SLOVAK UNIVERSITIES

At the Technical University in Zvolen, on 22 October 2019, a Memorandum on the cooperation of Slovak universities in the creation of the Consortium of Slovak Universities was signed, around the geographical heart of Central Europe.

By signing the Memorandum of Cooperation of Slovak Universities from the 22nd of October 2019, its signatories express their willingness to cooperate more closely in the fields of education and care for students, in research, development, artistic, project and other creative activities, as well as in fulfilling the social mission of universities.

The signatory parties to this memorandum are the Technical University in Zvolen, the University of Economics in Bratislava, the University of Trnava in Trnava, the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, Alexander Dubček University in Trenčín, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, the Catholic University in Ružomberok and the University of Prešov in Prešov.

The Parties to the Memorandum declare their interest in establishing a Consortium of Slovak Universities, which will bring together universities around the geographical center of the Europe.

The Consortium of Slovak Universities will have the legal status of a Consortium of Universities within the meaning of Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on universities and on amendments to certain acts, as amended. It will act as an association of legal entities registered in the register of consortia of universities. The legal personality and all academic rights and freedoms of the members of the consortium shall be fully preserved.

The establishment of a consortium will mean an improvement in the position of its members in academic rankings, international and Union cooperation, as well as an increase in their financial resources. The consortium is a means of strengthening mutual synergy of the capacities of member universities. It will also actively cooperate with other consortia and clusters in Slovakia, Europe and the world.

Signatory universities represent 50,000 students and 4,000 creative employees. The results in science and research are documented by more than 8,000 scientific publications registered in the Web of Science over the past 5 years.

The possibility of acceding to the Memorandum of Cooperation remains open after its signature. The consortium is expected to be set up in the near future after discussions with partners and academics.
