Summer School 2023 brought current insights into medicine

The Faculty of Health Sciences at UCM hosted both foreign and domestic speakers who discussed current trends in health sciences, such as cancer screening and physiotherapy.

From October 10 to 13, the Faculty of Health Sciences organized the Summer School 2023 – Actual Trends in Health Sciences, attended by colleagues from partner institutions – Apollonia University of Iasi, Romania, and the University of Health Sciences, Istanbul, Turkey.

Visiting the Faculty of Health Sciences were Dr. Elena Costescu, Dr. Mihaela Diana Gheban, Dr. Catalina Girbea, Dr. Assoc. Prof. Özgü İnal, Assist Prof. Oğuzhan Mete, and Dr. Ioan Emanuel Stavarache.

The program began on Tuesday with a welcome and introduction by the Vice-Dean for External Relations, Mgr. Jana Koišová, PhD. This was followed by expert lectures

The first presentation was on Breast Cancer Screening in the Slovak Republic by Assoc. Prof. Jana Slobodníková, PhD., Head of the Department of Radiology at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The program continued with presentations by colleagues from the University of Health Sciences, Istanbul - Assoc. Prof. Özgü İnal discussed Physiotherapy in the Management of Swallowing Disorders, and Assist Prof. Oğuzhan Mete presented a lecture on Physiotherapy in the Treatment of Fibromyalgia Syndrome. After the academic program, there was a tour of the city of Piešťany and the spa island, including a tasting of thermal water.

On Wednesday morning, foreign guests visited the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department of the A. Winter Hospital at the Polyclinic in Piešťany. The visit focused on the outpatient component, physical therapy, and kinesiotherapy. PhDr. Marián Mihálik accompanied the guests at the Polyclinic. In the afternoon, the academic program continued at the Faculty of Health Sciences with a lecture by Assoc. Prof. Richard Imrich, DrSc., on Innovations in the Treatment and Management of Patients with Alkaptonuria. Following the lecture and discussion, there was a tour of the faculty's classrooms, equipment, and fitness center.

Thursday's program continued with a lecture by Prof. Stefan Galbavý, DrSc., on the Effects of Probiotics in Certain Lifestyle Diseases. The program concluded with two lectures by Prof. Ľudovít Gašpar, CSc., on the Nuances of Treating Arterial Hypertension in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome and Medial Artery Calcification Predicts Cardiac Arrhythmias and Myocardial Ischemia.
