There are several study programmes available at the Faculty of Arts of UCM in Trnava. Philosophers, ethnologists, teachers and linguists will find their own. The offer is wide, the rate of graduates' employment is high and diverse.
A modern faculty with an innovative approach
The UCM Faculty of Arts is a dynamic faculty where pedagogy is intertwined with research and innovative education. It focuses on interdisciplinary relations, promotes current trends and provides students with opportunities for practical application of knowledge.
For example, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the faculty established the Center for Psychological Counseling and Research, which has three components. In addition to the research and training centre, there is also a psychological counselling centre, which provides free comprehensive counselling, help and support to UCM students and staff in a variety of life situations.
The Department of Philosophy and Applied Philosophy boasts the prestigious Centre of Bioethics, founded by Professor Peter Sýkora in 2008 as the first centre of its kind in Slovakia. It focuses on research into the impact of modern technologies on people, values and society. It examines the problems that plague global society in the 21st century.
Other important centres at the faculty include:
- Centre for Historical Demography and Population Development,
- Centre for Undergraduate Education,
- The Matej Bel Research Centre.
There is a lot going on at the faculty, just choose from a variety of programs and send in your application.
Special classrooms and laboratories for better practice
Several laboratories are set up for experiments and scientific work. In the psychology lab, students can use various tests to diagnose intelligence or special abilities such as fine motor skills, reaction time, memory, ability to concentrate under pressure, and they can also test aggression, stress management and more. It also includes a training room. The students of the teacher training programmes have a pedagogical laboratory where they improve their didactic technique, develop their communicative skills through the analysis of video recordings and professional competences by carrying out micro-teaching and self-reflection.
The faculty also has a fully equipped interpreting laboratory with professional translation booths. Students thus directly practice the basics of interpreting, and phonetics and phonology of foreign languages and communicative skills are also taught here. The faculty offers the study of English, German and Russian in professional communication. Languages can also be studied as part of teaching programmes.
Rich student life
Of course, it's not just about studying at the UCM Faculty of Arts. We don't forget about student life, which also happens outside the classroom. Students are involved in various clubs and interest organisations.
Lovers of words can express themselves in the student magazines Parazol or Via Historiae, debaters in the Psychoclub, which mainly brings together students from the psychology department, who organise various discussions with lecturers or professional debates.
Culture lovers and future ethnologists will be delighted by field research, as well as thematic meetings and discussions (e.g. Lithuanian Afternoon). Participation in mobility abroad in the framework of various programmes during their studies is a matter of course for students.

The employment of UCM FF graduates is truly diverse. Graduates of non-teaching fields of study are employed in scientific research, mass communication, editorial offices, publishing houses, cultural institutions, museums, archives, political institutions and representative bodies, international companies, translation and interpreting institutions, or as outreach and management workers in the field of culture and education.
