We are launching a new project to improve the future of education
The goal is to teach future teachers and game developers how to create educational games. The project holds many other interesting activities for teachers and game developers.
The project, funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ KA220 programme, called Learn to Play for the Future, is primarily dedicated to the creation of courses in universities with pedagogical orientations and also those where game studies are taught
This is due to less awareness of game elements in education among future teachers and vice versa, future developers do not understand the potential educational goals of digital games.
Thus, within three years, an international team will devise and test a curriculum for a course that should teach the aforementioned target groups how to create educational games.
In addition, the project also has a research component, in which we will investigate the current state of game-based learning education in universities, the needs of teachers, developers and those who focus on this area.
In addition, we will investigate the impact of teaching on student learning, using this data to improve the courses themselves. We will also partially develop the issue of educational games in scholarly discourse.
A unique output of the project is also a universal EduGame Maker toolbox to serve as a versatile game creation tool for teachers/learners. It will be freely available and, we firmly believe, effective to use after several rounds of testing.
Students will create educational games in the courses, which will also be an output of the project, so you can look forward to new educational games that can be used in the classroom or at home.
The great thing is that we want to share the results of the project not only in communication activities, for example through this newsletter, but also during live meetings where we will present the results of the project. We are also preparing educational videos on the topic of game-based learning.
The Learn to Play for the Future project is an international project under the Erasmus KA220 scheme. Its members are five organisations from Finland, Poland and Slovakia. It is a mix of professionals from pedagogically oriented universities, game studies and educational game development organisations:
- Impact Games - the creation of educational games and their application in schools,
- South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Finland) - digital games,
- University of Bielsko-Biala (Poland) - pedagogy,
- Comenius University, Faculty of Education (Slovakia) - pedagogy,
- Impact Games (Slovakia) - mentor in game-based learning,
- University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava (Slovakia) - digital games.
