Mgr. Andrej Brník, PhD.

 

Mgr. Andrej Brník, PhD. is a Slovak media expert and educator who works at the Faculty of Mass Media Communication at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. He is a graduate of this faculty, where he studied mass media communication. In his final theses, he focused on media education, media standards, and the impact of media. He has been teaching at the faculty since 2015.

He has held several positions at the faculty, including director of the student online radio station Aetter.sk, which regularly participates in international student radio competitions. Graduates of this radio station often find employment in national and regional radio stations in Slovakia. He has long been involved in the faculty's promotional activities, which he oversaw as vice-dean for development and public relations.

He currently serves as vice-rector for development and public relations at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. In this position, he methodically manages and is responsible to the rector for coordinating the development of the university's development concept and its ongoing implementation, monitoring and evaluating the fulfillment of the UCM's long-term plan and updating it, as well as its short-term action plan.

In his scientific work, he focuses on the field of radio broadcasting, with an emphasis on student radio broadcasting and its impact on society. He analyzes the development and significance of student radio stations in Slovakia and around the world, focusing on their role in cultural heritage and education. Together with his team, he strives to innovate the training of presenters and editors in radio broadcasting, thereby contributing to the improvement of media content quality. He explores the broader context of radio and its impact on society, including the ethical and legal aspects of media communication.

In addition to his academic activities, he is also actively involved in organizing major events such as the SIAF International Air Show in Sliač and the Aviation Festival in Piešťany, where he acts as organizer and media manager. His professional interests include media education, sound, radio broadcasting, and radio, and he has also been involved in the practical application of sound—the creation of advertisements, jingles, and other radio genres.

Areas of interest: His research focuses primarily on radio broadcasting, with an emphasis on its historical development, current trends, and social significance. He pays particular attention to student radio broadcasting, which he examines as a specific platform for media participation among young people. He analyzes its role in shaping cultural identity, media literacy, and education for responsible media practice. In addition to theoretical research, he is actively involved in innovating training processes for presenters and editors with the aim of improving the quality of media content and preparing students for professional work in radio and media environments. His research interests also include the broader social context of radio broadcasting, including the ethical and legal aspects of media communication. He also addresses issues of media education, particularly in the area of protecting children from inappropriate television content and raising awareness of the impact of media on young audiences. Through his work, Dr. Brník has made a significant contribution to a deeper understanding of the role of radio in the digital age, as well as to the development of media culture and education in Slovak higher education.
