Nickel is a chemical element that occurs naturally in soil, water, air, plants, and therefore also in food and other living organisms. However, anthropogenic activities related to the production and processing of nickel can cause its increased concentration in the environment, which is a risk to wildlife and thus to human health. Nickel and its compounds are currently considered immunotoxic and carcinogenic agents that cause a number of health problems. The study examines this problem in the context of the environmental paradigm, which emphasizes the importance of political–economic and socio-economic factors that can seriously affect environmental health. The aim of the study is to draw attention to the economic–political implications of not addressing the environmental burden caused by nickel production and landfilling of waste from this production in Slovakia. The uniqueness of the study is that it reflects the negative impacts of nickel on health in a human–legal context that is characteristic of social work. The study proposes a conceptual model, the verification of which requires further research.

In the context of salutogenesis, coping with diabetes is perceived as a dynamic process of changes in all aspects of biopsychosocial model of health/disease. Understanding of salutoprotective factors allows for estimation of client’s extent of vulnerability and ability to cope with the disease. The objective of the study is to assess selected salutoprotective factors in diabetic clients (SOC-type hardiness, well-being—subjective feelings and states scale [SUPOS], perceived social support scale [PSSS]). Low values of SOC, PSSS, and SUPOS suggest an increased need in psychosocial care. The possibility to strengthen an individual’s hardiness and to influence perceived social support adverts to the irreplaceable role of social workers at counseling and educational levels as well as that of a form of social support.

Considering the social importance of this particular issue, we might register continuous interest in the Roma issue. Publications of shorter or wider scope are available nowadays, especially after Slovakia joined the European Union, in which there is a policy aimed directly at the fight against discrimination and racism. As of the assessment of available sources, these range from short informative articles to scientific monographs. Almost all the scientific publications reviewed were based on a quantitative research design. The common denominator of these works was to research and present quantitatively related to some of the aspects of life indicators of members of the Roma ethnic group. Our research aimed to identify the territory of the emergence of new excluded Roma communities in Slovakia. The research was conducted in a qual itative design. The main methods for data collection were semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and observation. The research set was created by combining the available selection (Gavora et al., 2010) with the selection of compact groups. The members of the research group were 39. Based on the results, the identified significant factors that contributed to the creation and expansion of new marginalized Roma communities include prejudice and discrimination, job loss consequences of restitution. Our findings point out that marginalized Roma communities are the result of a range of political, social and individual economic factor. We suggest verification by through quantitative research

There is a relatively large Roma minority living in the Slovak Republic, whose members have been dealing with open or hidden discrimination or racism for centuries. In society, there is a tendency to attribute this hostile attitude to a part of the majority, whose behavior results from persistent prejudices and a lack of verified information. The article challenges this enduring status quo by bringing closer the causes of the growing marginalized Roma communities and the real problems that their inhabitants face. We see the social significance of the article in its potential impact on public opinion. When included as study material, it can positively influence students, especially from study programs in the so-called helping professions.

People with disabilities face daily obstacles that do not allow them to integrate adequately into society. Health disadvantage itself is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon, which carries with it several specificities. Social inclusion is a phenomenon that is still present in the academic world than in society itself. A specific part of inclusion is precisely the participation of people with disabilities in sporting activities. Although sport can be understood as the most beautiful means of inclusion of people with disabilities, it is here that we can observe shortcomings in participation in sport. Very little attention is paid to the management of sport of persons with disabilities and their support from society is at a minimum. We chose this issue precisely because of the increase in the interest of people with disabilities in sports activities. Methods: The study analyzes sport as a means of inclusion of people with disabilities in society. We carried out the research in qualitative design and as a method of data collection we chose a semi-structured interview, which we conducted with 9 informants between October 2021 and March 2022. We analyzed the results of our research was to find out what sport brings to the lives of people with disabilities and to find out in what areas sport has enriched the lives of people with disabilities. Results & conclusions: Based on our findings, we can conclude that people with disabilities reflect the changes that occurred in their lives after they started active sports. Through sport, they managed to improve not only their physical condition, but also brought positive changes to them by sport in the fields of mental and social. Our research also confirmed the positive impact of sport on the autonomy of people with health disadvantages.

Štúdia prináša vhľad do športových aktivít ľudí so špecifickými potrebami.
