prof. Mgr. Katarína Slobodová Nováková, PhD.
She studied at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, where she obtained a master's degree in ethnography and teaching of general education subjects/history. She completed her doctoral studies at the Institute of Ethnology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava and her habilitation procedure again at her alma mater, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. She obtained her doctorate and associate professor titles in ethnology. She was awarded the highest pedagogical and academic title of professor in 2021 at UCM in the field of historical sciences.
She currently works as a professor at the Department of Ethnology and Non-European Studies (KETNO) at the Faculty of Arts, UCM, in the field of historical sciences, in the study program Ethnology and Non-European Studies. She is a co-teacher of the study program Ethnology and Non-European Studies, specializing in historical sciences, for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, as well as habilitation and inauguration proceedings. Since 2022, she has been the rector of UCM.
During her studies, she visited or collaborated with many foreign universities and institutions, for example in Kazakhstan, Romania, Russia, Oman, Canada, and Iraq.
Area of interest: In the scientific field, she focuses mainly on traditional agricultural culture with an emphasis on viticulture, winemaking, pastoralism, transport and culinary culture. She also deals with the collectivization of agriculture and transformation processes, ethno-linguistic revitalization, and ethnolinguistics. She studies minorities in Slovakia and Europe, regional culture, cultural heritage, and is also involved in ethnopedagogy. She is a member of several domestic and international non-governmental bodies and organizations, including the Ethnographic Society of Slovakia, the Czech Ethnographic Society, and the Review Committee of the Slovak Scientific Societies.
