Evaluation of the questionnaire survey on the satisfaction of the accommodated UCM students

Published: on 3.6.2025

A questionnaire survey on the satisfaction of the accommodated male and female students was carried out in cooperation with the Quality Department and the management of the student house from 18.3.2025 to 27.3.2025. The questionnaire was addressed to the students accommodated in the UCM Student House and in other accommodation facilities offered by the University.

The survey allowed the student body to evaluate several aspects of the accommodation, including room facilities, sanitary facilities, kitchen facilities, level of cleanliness and hygiene, communication with staff, availability of accommodation and the process of allocation and provision of accommodation by the University itself. The questionnaire also included an opportunity to provide verbal comments or suggestions for improvement.

Out of the 724 male and female students contacted, 24% of respondents took part in the survey (9% of the responses from international students).

The results and outputs are archived at the UCM Quality Department, which organised and processed the survey. The obtained results and suggestions were discussed between the university management and the student house management. Vice-rector for Education doc. JUDr. Bystrík Šramel, PhD., together with the Head of the School of Education Mgr. Janka Gajdová prepared a document (evaluation), which was discussed in the College of the Rector of the University on 27 May 2025.

The results show that the areas of highest satisfaction were: staff attitude, accommodation process and allocation of places. On the contrary, the lowest satisfaction was recorded for the quality of internet, maintenance of technical equipment and the level of hygiene.

Satisfaction rates by length of stay varied, e.g. also by length of student accommodation:

  • Students staying longer than 1 year show a higher level of dissatisfaction - probably due to the accumulation of negative experiences.
  • Newly arrived students are more likely to be "neutral" or "satisfied", probably not yet having experienced all the limits of accommodation.

It can be concluded that although a supermajority of respondents are satisfied, a relatively large number of respondents perceive their accommodation as unsatisfactory or problematic. An increase in overall satisfaction can only be achieved by systematically addressing recurring comments, particularly in the areas of hygiene, facilities and staff attitude. The level of satisfaction among students is not uniform and varies considerably from one dormitory to another as well as from one area to another.

A significant proportion of dissatisfied male and female students indicate a need for targeted intervention in the areas of maintenance, cleanliness, technical equipment and internet access.

In the open-ended items and comments, students provided a number of specific suggestions, criticisms and suggestions. The critical comments can be summarised into a few main areas that recurred in responses across the accommodation in varying degrees of intensity:

  • old/ruined room facilities, lack of sufficient washing machines, lack of kitchen facilities,
  • lack of hygiene and tidiness in common areas,
  • insufficient wifi coverage or signal strength,
  • allocation of rooms not sufficiently transparent, poor communication regarding the rules of the dormitory,
  • accessibility hours of kitchens/clubrooms, common areas need to be reassessed.

It should be noted that the comments covered a wide range of topics, but the common denominator is the requirement for decent, hygienic and functionally equipped housing with quality services.

Within the open-ended items and comments, students also made many positive observations that deserve attention and mostly related to specific accommodation facilities:

  • Praise for selected accommodation facilities regarding friendly communication with students,
  • good location and accessibility in the vast majority of accommodation facilities,
  • the existence of study rooms,
  • prompt resolution of technical problems and faults in the rooms.

The UCM Rector's College adopted the report Evaluation of the Questionnaire - Satisfaction of UCM Accommodated Students (2025). The management of the Student House in cooperation with the University Bursar will improve the quality of accommodation in the coming academic year also on the basis of suggestions and feedback, especially its technical aspects.

We would like to thank all the male and female respondents for their participation and completion of the accommodation satisfaction questionnaire.
