Introducing talented female scientists at UCM

11 February marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Zuzana Drakova, Šarlota Kaňuková and Bianka Francistyová represent three different approaches to science and creative solutions. Their work shows that scientific endeavour can be combined with practical results, wider societal benefits and even fun. Each brings a fresh perspective that fosters diversity and innovation in the scientific community.

 

Zuzana Drakova's "Heart in the Palm of Your Hand"

PhDr. Zuzana Drakova, PhD., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, has been awarded the prestigious "Heart on the Palm of Her Hand" award for her long-term volunteer activities. Her work proves that helping others can be a natural part of life. She volunteers in several organizations and motivates her students to do the same. Her efforts are proof that the desire to help stems from a deep empathy and a willingness to change the world for the better.

Charlotte Kaňuk: Talent that is changing the world of plant biotechnology

Šarlota Kaňuková, PhD, assistant professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, has been named the Science and Technology Personality under 35 at the prestigious Science and Technology Prize. She specializes in in vitro plant cell culture techniques and targeted production of secondary metabolites with valuable properties. She has received other prestigious awards for her innovative results, including the BioInnovation Award 2024. Her work has contributed to the field of cellular and molecular agriculture.

Bianka Francisty: scientific analysis of entertainment series

Mgr. Bianka Francisty, a young scientist at the Faculty of Mass Communication, has managed to combine entertainment with serious scientific endeavours. Her research on South Korean soap operas has led her to discover new types of characters that have captivated audiences around the world. She has detailed both main and supporting characters, identified original male heroes, and characterized categories that had not been created before.
