During the weekend of May 2-4, 2025, the 10th anniversary season of the University Championships of Slovakia (UNI MSR) in electronic sports took place.
The UCM TEDI Bears Indigo team took home the title of Slovak University Champion in Counter-Strike 2 for the eighth time in a row. Our most dominant lineup thus capped off an impressive period of domination in the domestic university e-sports scene.
In Sunday's grand final, they faced the mixed team "Nerves in the Dredge", who put up an extraordinary resistance - they managed to get the first Mirage map in a thrilling 13:11 finish. The Bears then responded with a 13:8 win on the Anubis map, and it was decided all the way to Dust 2, where we went into overtime. However, UCM TEDI Bears Indigo made it through and closed out the series with a 16-13 win. The overall series score of 2:1 secured another championship title for our roster.
"It was also the last representation for a large number of players as their varsity journey ends this year with the state exams. We would therefore like to thank them for all the victories they have won and for helping to create a brand that will be remembered in university e-sports for a long time to come," said team leader Martin Paučin, who is also a full-time PhD student at our faculty in the Digital Game Theory programme.
Thanks to the players Martin "MAXX" Smolár, Dávid "BaXi" Sojčák, Milan "Braindamage" Nejedlík, Benjamín "Reiden" Zuba and Dominik "NIO" Maxián. "These five were the strongest line-up that Slovak university Counter-Strike has ever known, and their level will be hard to surpass," Paučin adds.
Martin Smolár posted photos on Instagram after the tournament with the comment, "We are defending the title of university champions again, for the 8th time in a row, and at the same time this is the end of my journey in TEDI Bears and also the end of my overall involvement in the university scene. It's been a nice 5 years, thank you to all my teammates for the great memories."
