UCM students are achieving athletic success at the international level
College studies and elite sports do not have to be mutually exclusive. Proof of this can be found among the students of our alma mater, who have recently achieved excellent results at both the European and World Championships.
Among the most notable achievements is the performance of Miroslava Hocková, a third-year bachelor’s student at the UCM Faculty of Social Sciences. The Slovak national team member became the European champion in women’s skeet at the European Under-23 Championships in Wrocław, Poland. In the qualifying round, she scored 118 out of 125 targets, and in the final, she won the gold medal in a thrilling match.
Martin Horváth, a second-year bachelor’s student at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSV), also represents this successful generation of young shooters. At the World Championships for athletes under 23, he won a silver medal in the men’s skeet solo shotgun event.
Filip Benkovský, also from the Faculty of Sports Science, achieved an admirable result as well, representing Slovakia at the European Under-23 Championships in Poland. He placed 5th in the men’s individual trap final and, as part of the Slovak team, celebrated winning a silver medal in the team competition.
The successes of Miroslava Hocková, Martin Horváth, and Filip Benkovský demonstrate that UCM students can excel outside the academic environment and successfully represent their country at the highest international level. Their results also serve as an example of how it is possible to combine university studies with rigorous training for elite sports.
For the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, the success of its students is also an opportunity to show young people that academic education and the development of one’s own talent can go hand in hand. Behind every medal or successful finish lie hours of training, discipline, determination, and the ability to balance athletic commitments with studies.
