On 17 April 2025, the management of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava officially handed over the building of the former Secondary Industrial School on SNP Square No. 8 in Piešt'any to the contractor of the construction works, DAG Slovakia, a. s. This step marked the beginning of the long-awaited reconstruction of the premises for the Faculty of Health Sciences of UCM.

The aim of the reconstruction is to transform the historical building into a modern and functional seat of the Faculty of Health Sciences of UCM. By the end of 2026, an area of approximately 2,000 m² will become an academic facility for higher education and research, adapted to current needs.

"The reconstruction of this historic building is an important milestone for the development of higher education in the Piešt'any region. We want to create a quality environment that will motivate students to achieve excellent academic results," said Katarína Slobodová Nováková, Rector of the UCM in Trnava.

The reconstruction will be financed from the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, from the project Consortium of Trnava Universities, project number: 08I01-20-V05-00003 and from UCM's own resources. The University will invest a total of EUR 1,443,772.47, of which EUR 1 million will be drawn from the POO project and the rest will be financed from its own resources.

The completion of the reconstruction works is scheduled for next year, while the new premises will begin to serve students from the academic year 2026/2027.

A Simulation Learning Centre is also planned to be built in this building through a call by the Ministry of Education, which is currently under evaluation. "If the project is approved, state-of-the-art equipment for teaching virtualization will be installed in the building, which will significantly strengthen the quality of practical training of students of the Faculty of Health Sciences," added the dean of the faculty Juraj Štofko.

With this investment, the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava confirms its commitment to improving the quality of educational infrastructure and thus contributing to the development of the city of Piešt'any and the entire region.
