CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS OF THE UCM

The goal of SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) is to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, ensure access to justice, and strengthen trustworthy institutions. Media education increases resilience to disinformation, develops critical thinking and civic participation, and thus strengthens trust in public processes. At the same time, it fulfills the objectives of SDG 4 (Quality Education) within the framework of quality education, which aims to develop knowledge and skills for sustainable development, including media and digital literacy.

Social demand	Media literacy and media education are becoming an essential part of education at a time when society is exposed to a wealth of information of varying quality and reliability. How can we ensure that young people are able to critically evaluate media content, develop their skills, and safely navigate the digital environment? How can media education be effectively implemented in schools so that it has a long-term and real impact?
UCM solution	The integration of media education into the education system has brought about fundamental changes in the way young people approach the media. The result is an increase in media literacy, leading to safer and more responsible use of media in society. Research activities include solutions focused on media culture, marketing communication, digital technologies, and social interaction.
Social impact of the UCM solution	Research conducted by the Faculty of Mass Media Communication at UCM contributes to the formation of legislation and practices that support higher-quality education in the field of media literacy at the national level. FMK has become a pioneer in the field of media education in Slovakia and Europe.
Partnerships	Cooperation with experts from academia, schools, and public institutions ensures the continuous development and application of the latest knowledge in the field of media literacy. International partnerships enable the exchange of experiences and access to innovative methods, which further expand the reach of initiatives across Europe.
