CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS OF THE UCM
The goal of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) is to improve the health of the population and prevent disease. Analyses of bioactive substances in barley, poppy, wheat, rye, and oat varieties identify varieties with higher antioxidant potential and provide a basis for healthier foods. SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) is fulfilled by using modern chemical and biochemical methods and transferring knowledge to breeding and registration. SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) is supported by recommendations for the selection of varieties with added value. At UCM, the results are translated into recommendations for practice, which also contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through higher added value in agri-food.
