CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS OF THE UCM

The goal of SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) is to build resilient and secure digital infrastructure. Strengthening cyber protection for IoT and critical networks increases the robustness of solutions against DDoS and DRDoS attacks and enables the secure development of smart services. At UCM, attack simulations and detection mechanisms are being developed and transferred into practice and teaching, which advances security standards. At the same time, SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) is being fulfilled by strengthening trust in digital services, SDG 4 (Quality Education) by developing competencies, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through partnerships with industry.

Social demand	The Internet of Things (IoT) now controls our homes, industry, and public services. However, along with the boom in these technologies, there has also been an increase in cyber attacks that can cause outages, data loss, and security threats. How can we protect vulnerable IoT devices and ensure the stability of critical infrastructure against DDoS and DRDoS attacks? How have we strengthened cyber protection for IoT and networks for a more secure future?
UCM solution	Researchers at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at UCM focused on an in-depth analysis of the vulnerabilities of IoT devices and networks. Using realistic simulations of cyber attacks, they tested the responses of security sensors and industrial devices. Their innovative approach has enabled the development of new defense mechanisms that can detect and eliminate attacks in time, before they cause damage. The research has contributed significantly to the protection of smart homes, factories, and public networks.
Social impact of the UCM solution	The research results have led to increased resilience of IoT technologies and improved security standards in real-world industrial solutions. The outputs have also been incorporated into educational programs, where they help prepare a new generation of IT experts for the challenges of the digital world. The theoretical foundations and research methodologies of UCM were key to the development of a new generation of security techniques that improve system resilience. The research provided evidence of critical risks in industrial IoT networks, which has led some major market players to adjust their development roadmaps with an emphasis on preventing attacks at the system design stage and contributes to protecting the industrial environment from growing cyber threats, which has a significant impact on the security of industrial infrastructure as a whole.
Partnerships	FPV UCM is capable of delivering practical solutions to global problems. Thanks to interdisciplinary cooperation between experts and students, a solution with real social benefits has been developed. The university confirms that it can be a partner for practice and an inspiration for innovation.
