A graduate of the 1st degree of Philology (study program: 7357 foreign languages and cultures - English language and culture in professional communication) will acquire professional skills / competence to perform their profession or will be prepared to continue further studies at a university. Graduates of the 1st degree are awarded the academic title "Bachelor" (B.C.) (§ 52 para. 5 Z. z. no. 131/2002).
A graduate of the 1st degree masters primary speech skills at the level of communicative sufficiency, both in written and oral form; has superstructure skills, such as the specifics and principles of translation, possesses a conceptual apparatus and basic theoretical knowledge of linguistics, literary science and intercultural communication.
The graduate of the study program acquires:
1. Knowledge:
The study program is aimed at preparing the student to acquire general theoretical and professional knowledge, acquire and develop practical skills and abilities necessary for performing translation work, advanced communication in various professional areas;increased creative abilities through participation in organized educational and research activities of students. The student masters the basics of linguistics, literary and cultural disciplines, as well as practical skills in subjects aimed at developing command of the English language at an advanced level.
2. Skills:
The purpose of studying in this program is to acquire universal, general professional and specific professional skills in the student. These consist in the quality training of future professionals, which are required by the current modern labor market and which are in line with the requirements of the new information era.
Expert - a graduate of this program has a good command of receptive skills (listening, reading) and productive skills (speaking, writing) in the English language. Acquires the ability to independently creatively apply the acquired knowledge on a theoretical and practical level.
3. Professional competences:
A graduate of the study program English language and culture in professional communication masters the conceptual apparatus of linguistics, literary science and professional language (e.g. professional communication in business English, professional communication in healthcare, professional communication - law, etc. He also has basic knowledge of translation strategies and has acquired knowledge of the issue of intercultural communication behavior.
4. Transferable competences:
A graduate of the first degree of the study program English language and culture in professional communication can work in a team and be part of team cooperation; in translation activities, he controls the compilation of translation and terminological memory using translation tools such as Memsource.
Memsource is creative on the lexical level when managing websites and advertisements, it finds the application of creativity in the translation, control and revision of translation texts; can process documents for management of organizations of any organizational and legal form, prepare and create information material; use, process, translate and correct professional texts from various fields.
A graduate of the study program is able to carry out work activities in the field of contact with foreign clients within the framework of the development of cultural and economic relations with foreign countries, in translation activities he will be employed as an assistant translator - he will be able to carry out and correct the translation of professional texts in the field of business English, law , healthcare, tourism, assist in intercultural communication in various spheres of communication, facilitate intercultural communication, find application in cultural educational institutions, foreign or international companies in the field of customer service, or customer service, in the field of advertising, tourism, financial sector and public relations.

When registering the application electronically:
- the applicant is obliged to save the application uploaded in AIS (electronic application) (the status of the application "registered" is not sufficient,
- we recommend using the electronic student book. Applicants who will graduate in the academic year 2024, submit a list of grades for the 1st to 3rd year (4-year study), or for the 2nd to 4th year (5-year study). The report card from the last year and the matriculation certificate must be delivered additionally by post to the study department.
- in case the applicant does not have the possibility to use the electronic student book, it is necessary to send certified copies of the documents by post to the study department,
in the attachment of the electronic application, the applicant uploads a CV and confirmation of payment of the fee for the admission procedure. - the applicant, who graduated before 2024, will deliver to the Study Department (in person or by post) certified copies of the report cards for the 1st to 4th year (4-year study), or for the 2nd to 5th year (5-year study) together with the school leaving certificate.
When applying in writing:
- the application along with all mandatory attachments must be sent by mail to the address: Study Department FF UCM, Nám. J. Herdu 2, 917 01 Trnava, or hand it in at the post office,
- applicants who graduate in the academic year 2024 send the report card from the last year of study and the matriculation certificate additionally by mail.

The applicant is obliged to submit a decision on the recognition of a document on education obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic no later than the day of registration.

Information for international applicants to download
For the study of all study programs - including the study of foreign languages - knowledge of the Slovak language is required. Foreign students who do not have a high school diploma in the Slovak language or a university diploma from a Slovak university must take a language exam.
This condition does not apply to students with Czech citizenship.
It is necessary to register for the language exam in the online form no later than August 20, 2024.
Владение словацким языком требуется для всех учебных программ – включая иностранные языки. Для иностранных студентов, которые не подтверждают свой аттестат зрелости по словацкому языку или университетский диплом словацкого университета, сдача экзамена по словацкому языку является обязательной.
Это условие не распространяется на студентов с чешским гражданством.
