Applied Biology

Dive into the fascinating world of microorganisms, genetics, and applied biology. Here, you’ll learn to work with state-of-the-art laboratory technologies, such as those used in research on genetically modified microorganisms. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore microbiology, virology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and genomics.

You’ll gain knowledge about life at all levels—from microscopic cells to evolutionary processes. After graduation, career opportunities await you in biomedical research, laboratories, and innovative technology companies. If you want to study biology with real-world applications, join us.

Applied Computer Science

Students will acquire theoretical and, above all, practical skills in computer science, such as computer architecture, operating systems, algorithms, programming, information security, and computer networks—and will be able to apply them in the development of computer-based systems.

We provide education not only through the curriculum and coursework, but students can also participate free of charge in educational activities offered by the global giant CISCO ACADEMY. Through this program, they will learn about networking technologies, routing protocols, and much more. In addition, students have access to training through the Oracle Academy.

This program provides students with fully equipped computer labs. There is also no shortage of new technologies, such as virtual reality, a VR Walk motion platform, a testing room, and much more.

Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a field that is currently experiencing rapid growth. Along with the leading scientists in this field whom you’ll meet in lectures, you can participate in various research projects focused on agricultural, industrial, enzymatic, or pharmaceutical biotechnology.

If you care about the future of our planet, you can focus on the development of biodegradable plastics and research into enzymes capable of breaking down pollutants in our environment. Or you can focus on the production of valuable metabolites in plants. There’s a lot happening in the field of biotechnology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (FPV) at UCM in Trnava—if you want to experience it, just submit your application.

Ecosystem Sciences and Environmental Change

This degree program offers a unique opportunity to understand how natural ecosystems function and the changes currently affecting our planet. It is a joint study program of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at UCM in Trnava and the University of Trnava, which integrates knowledge from ecology, environmental sciences, and education.

During your studies, you’ll learn to study nature both in the field and in the laboratory. You’ll cover everything from monitoring ecosystems and analyzing environmental data to using modern tools such as GIS and remote sensing. You’ll gain a broader understanding of today’s environmental challenges, renewable energy sources, and ways to contribute to nature conservation and sustainable development.

We offer the program in two formats: a full-time program in Slovak and a part-time program in English, which makes it accessible to a broader international audience.

You’ll also learn how to communicate environmental topics and design educational activities focused on sustainability and nature conservation. If you want to better understand the world around us and actively contribute to solving today’s environmental challenges, this program will open the door to a meaningful career in science, environmental practice, and education.

Chemistry and Applied Chemistry

Do you enjoy chemistry and want to work with cutting-edge technologies? In the Chemistry and Applied Chemistry programs, you’ll gain access to state-of-the-art laboratories where you can experiment and work with cutting-edge equipment, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, which can instantly reveal the chemical structure of substances.

You can specialize in various fields of chemistry or biomedical chemistry and learn to use analytical techniques that have real-world applications. In addition to other professional laboratories, students have the opportunity to complete a paid summer internship at the Institute of Polymers at the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

If you’re interested in immediate employment in the field, the Applied Analytical Chemistry program gives you the opportunity to gain valuable experience while still in school. Professional internships at partner institutions will open the door to exciting career opportunities.

Environmental Protection and Restoration

Do you want to help protect the planet and work with cutting-edge technologies? In the Environmental Protection and Restoration program, you’ll gain not only theoretical knowledge but also real-world experience addressing today’s environmental challenges.

The goal is to foster creative thinking in students, independent work, and an innovative approach to applying the knowledge gained in environmental sciences, environmental protection, and the development of new technologies that are less harmful to the environment.

If you choose this program, you’ll have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment in this field. We are also the only university in Slovakia to have a positron emission tomograph, which students can use for their experimental work.

Students can also collaborate with institutions and industry experts, such as the Nuclear Decommissioning Company in Bratislava, BIONT, the Nuclear Energy Research Institute in Trnava, and the NPPC Plant Production Research Institute in Piešťany. They can also participate in various projects, such as “Let’s Save the Wetlands Together,” and thus conduct field research and monitoring directly in nature.
