Give your research a voice: UCM Doctoral Academy shows how to do it
Published on 8.4.2026
The UCM Doctoral Academy confirms its position as a significant platform that systematically supports the development of professional, communication and presentation skills of doctoral students across various scientific disciplines. Through its activities, it creates a space for connecting theory with practice and contributes to improving the quality of scientific work of young researchers.
In this spirit, a two-day practically oriented workshop entitled "Modern Communication of Dissertations: Research that has a Voice" was held on 26 and 27 March 2026. The event was aimed at developing the ability to effectively present the results of one's own research and to strengthen the communication competences of the participants in both academic and broader social contexts.
The participants had the opportunity to work on improving the structure of their argumentation, clearly and comprehensibly formulating the contribution of the dissertation, as well as adapting the method of communication to different target groups. The workshop combined theoretical foundations with practical exercises, interactive activities and discussions that reflected current challenges in the field of scientific communication. The emphasis was placed mainly on linking the quality of research with its convincing and understandable presentation. The event was also attended by doctoral students from the University of Trnava, which further supported interdisciplinary cooperation and the exchange of experiences among young scientists.

The lecturers were Václav Kupec and Martin Smetana, who brought valuable experience from both academic and professional environments. Their inputs drew mainly from the areas of auditing, data analysis and storytelling, thereby enriching the program with practical perspectives that can be used in various types of research.
The workshop was part of the long-term concept of the Doctoral Academy of the University of Cracow, which systematically focuses on supporting the quality of scientific output, developing transferable skills and building an interdisciplinary community of doctoral students. In the context of the upcoming legislative changes that strengthen the position of doctoral schools as an integral part of the new Higher Education Act, such activities are taking on even greater importance. The Doctoral Academy also reflects this trend through the events it organizes and actively contributes to the formation of a modern and high-quality environment for doctoral studies.
