Šarlota Kaňuková from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM has achieved significant international success thanks to her research
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has awarded a scientist from the Department of Biotechnology 3rd place in the EIT Manufacturing RIS LEADERS Competition 2024.
The EIT is Europe's largest innovation network and a unique body co-funded by the European Union. It fosters innovation and brings together people and organisations from business, education and research to find and commercialise solutions to pressing global challenges.
The category, which was won by Sharlota Kaňuková, PhD, recognises women leaders in technological and manufacturing innovation. In 2024, more than 600 women competed in this category, but only 6 selected finalists made it to the finals. This took place on 29 November 2024 in Budapest as part of the EIT Conference. The third place is probably the most significant European award received by one of our young male or female scientists so far. It is certainly an encouragement in her and our further scientific activities as well as in the field of prospective applications of plant biotechnology in practice.
