Invitation to a lecture from the series I Want to Know More: False Friends or Treacherous Words in English and Slovak

The lecture will focus on words that look similar in both languages, but have different meanings. We will get acquainted with the most common "false friends" that can cause misunderstandings in translation and everyday communication, and we will learn how to avoid them in practice. The practical lecture will offer many specific examples from everyday and professional English and will contribute to a more accurate and confident use of both languages, which the participants will benefit from especially when writing scientific articles and presenting research results.

Mgr. Anna Hurajová, PhD., works as an assistant professor at the Department of Language Communication, FMK UCM in Trnava. In her pedagogical practice, she focuses on teaching English in a professional context and on subjects that develop critical thinking and argumentation skills. In her scientific and publishing activities, she is dedicated to English in a professional environment and the development of critical and creative thinking in tertiary education. She is the author of several scientific studies and university textbooks in these areas.

She is active in literature and leads the English literature department at the faculty, as well as a discussion club focused on developing students' character and communication skills. In her work, she combines research with teaching and applies innovative approaches with an emphasis on the practical international dimension of education.
