The student from the Faculty of Health Sciences represented UCM at the European University Combat Sports Championships (EUSA Combat Championships 2026). The international event took place September 9–13, 2026, in Tirana, Albania.
Future physical therapist Roman Hrčka competed in the men’s karate kata event. Facing stiff competition from university athletes across Europe, he managed to advance all the way to the finals, where he battled for the title of European University Champion.
The final match was exceptionally close. In the end, the judges’ votes decided the winner by a 3–4 margin, earning Roman Hrčka second place and a silver medal.
This success at the European Championship is a significant athletic achievement and also a great way to represent the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava and the Faculty of Health Sciences on the international stage.
“I greatly appreciate having had the opportunity to represent UCM and the Faculty of Health Sciences through sports and to bring home a medal from the European University Championships,” said Roman Hrčka.
