Marketing, media, design or gaming industry? Faculty of Mass Media Communication expands study offer
In addition to established programs, the faculty has recently introduced several new and innovative programs reflecting the current development of the media and creative industries.
These include, for example, a professionally oriented program mainly for graphic artists and designers, but also a joint program with the University of Trnava - future graduates will graduate with a joint diploma from both universities.

Theory is complemented by rich practice
And this across all departments and programs. Marketers gain knowledge and skills not only from renowned teachers, but also from recognized external lecturers working in advertising and digital agencies such as PS: Digital, TRIAD Advertising, Wiktor Leo Burnett or Inspirations Minar. Future marketing gurus can get involved in the student agency Kabinet kreativity, where they work on real assignments from real clients under the supervision of experienced mentors (they even won gold at an international competition in Brussels for a campaign on responsible drinking of alcohol by young people), or take agency, PR or client safaris. The Design Thinking method is also used in teaching, and FMK can also boast a unique neuromarketing laboratory.

The faculty flexibly responds to current trends in media practice, while the education of mass media professionals includes practically oriented compulsory and elective subjects - sound, editing, camera, basics of 3D animation, creative writing, interpretive speech and much more. It also hosts dozens of domestic and foreign experts and personalities from the media, press agencies, associations and other media institutions every year.

New study programs and innovations
In addition to traditional study programs such as mass media communication, marketing communication or digital game theory, the faculty is gradually expanding its offer with new programs that respond to the current needs of media and creative practice.
Since last year, the offer has included digital design - a professionally oriented study program focused on graphic design, branding, UI/UX and visual communication in a digital environment. It is a natural choice for creatively oriented students who want to work in the field of graphics, digital design or creating visual brand identity.

Another novelty is the upcoming study program in advertising and consumer psychology, which the faculty is implementing in cooperation with the University of Trnava. Students will complete courses at both universities during their studies and will receive a joint diploma upon completion. The program is focused on a deeper understanding of consumer behavior, marketing research, insights, and strategic communication planning – areas that are key, especially for work in advertising agencies or corporate marketing.
A new study program in Public Relations, taught in English, is also being approved, which follows on from the previous program in media relations. This is the only study program in Slovakia focused exclusively on the field of PR – organizational communication, reputation building, and crisis communication. The faculty will announce the application deadline in March.
An innovation of the existing program in applied media studies is its transformation into a program in digital competences and responsibility. The program focuses on orientation in the digital world, media literacy, critical thinking, working with artificial intelligence and understanding the functioning of digital platforms.
Are you attracted to computer games?
Using the theory of digital games, we will help you navigate the current state of the gaming industry, enable you to understand the specifics of its functioning and prepare you for further development in your chosen area of interest. We have the TEDI Bears e-sports team, the UniCon gaming festival and regular game jams. In addition, our students are involved in the international game incubator and accelerator Game Jam Plus, where they create their own games and attract investors. Students train in a specialized e-sports center - the first of its kind in Slovakia.
Creative souls will also come into their own
If you have a creative spirit and see yourself in the creative industry, you will come into your own. You can work for some of the faculty media or visit photography studios. And all this under the professional guidance of people from practice.
Promising journalists can become members of the editorial board of the best university magazine in Slovakia, Atteliér, as evidenced by the awards from the student magazine competition Štúrovo pero. Every week, the faculty television FMK TV brings students interesting shows created by the students themselves. You can use your microphone voice in Aetter, the first Slovak student radio with its own frequency.
Do you write, but rather short stories or poetry instead of journalistic output? You will focus on creative writing, with the best texts being selected every year and published in Muuza, the creative yearbook of FMK students. Photography enthusiasts can work in three photo studios and present their projects in the Ľudovít Hlaváč Gallery, which has been operating for more than ten years.

The Faculty is alive
The Faculty of Science and Technology regularly hosts various events, popular among students and teachers. The Science and Technology Week is dedicated annually to current topics in the world of media, marketing and games. Athletes can enjoy themselves at the legendary Skiing Challenge, and for cinema enthusiasts, Frejm - a student film and games festival is organized. In addition, there is FMK Day, Vjamnoce, and numerous discussions and gatherings throughout the year.
FMK is the alma mater of many successful journalists, media professionals, marketers, presenters, spokespersons, employees of advertising, marketing and PR agencies, game studios and development teams. If you want to join them, do not hesitate and apply by the end of April.
