Trnava, March 18, 2026 - The Rectors of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius (UCM) and the University of Trnava (TRUNI), together with the deans of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM and the Faculty of Education of TRUNI, today ceremoniously signed documents on the establishment of the Joint Center of Excellence for Basic and Applied Research in the Field of Environmental Sciences.
The Joint Center of Excellence for Basic and Applied Research in the Field of Environmental Sciences is being established as part of a consortium of both Trnava universities, which have joined the project of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic to support the strategic development of university infrastructure.
The center builds on the previous cooperation of both departments in the field of environmental sciences and will provide a platform for their systematic connection, sharing of know-how, infrastructure and data.
"Modern research into environmental processes requires specialized laboratories, monitoring systems, computing environments and data platforms. Concentrated infrastructure will increase the efficiency, accessibility and quality of scientific outputs. Key environmental problems will require not only theoretical knowledge, but also the transfer of results into practice. The center will provide a bridge between science, innovation and implementation," said Katarína Slobodová Nováková, Rector of the University of Trnava in Slovakia.
The rectors of both universities also signed the Statute of the Joint Student Support Center, which is part of the Trnava University Consortium, and the Directive on the Implementation of Interinstitutional Mobility.
"The Joint Student Support Center will aim to provide support to students, especially in the area of specific student needs, career counseling, psychological counseling, and spiritual support. The activity will be implemented through four specialized departments - the Department of Support for Students with Specific Needs, the Department of Career Counseling, the Department of Psychological Counseling, and the Department of Spiritual Support," added the rector of Trnava University, Miloš Lichner.
