Trnava, August 21, 2025 – The rector of St. Cyril and Methodius University in Trnava and the chairman of the Trnava Self-Governing Region today officially signed a purchase agreement for the former Secondary Industrial School building at Námestie SNP 8 in Piešťany. The building, which will house the Faculty of Health Sciences, was purchased by the university from the Trnava Self-Governing Region, from which it had previously leased it.
The interior of this historic building is currently undergoing extensive renovation funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, the Trnava Universities Consortium project (project number: 08I01-20-V05-00003) and UCM's own resources, with a total value of more than €1,440,000. In addition, the faculty has also obtained further project funding, more than €5 million, for the development of the skills of future healthcare professionals and the construction of a simulation teaching center in this building.
The renovation of the building is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. A modern and functional headquarters for the UCM Faculty of Health Sciences (FZV) will be created here on an area of approximately 2,000 m². Subsequently, construction of the simulation center will begin, which is expected to be completed by 2029.
"I am very pleased that the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava is acquiring a building that has a long tradition of education in Piešťany and is now becoming the basis for the further development of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Our ambition is to create a modern faculty headquarters with high-quality facilities for students and teachers and to build a simulation center that will enable the practical training of future healthcare professionals at a level comparable to that of developed European countries," said Katarína Slobodová Nováková, Rector of UCM in Trnava.
The new FZV UCM headquarters will also include a Simulation Teaching Center for the development of skills in physiotherapy and radiological technology, which will provide realistic conditions for training the technical and non-technical skills of future healthcare professionals and for innovating study programs. "I am pleased that the Trnava region was able to play a useful role in giving the historic building of the former industrial school a new meaning and allowing it to serve education once again.
"I am delighted that the Trnava region has been able to play a useful role in giving the historic building of the former industrial school a new meaning and allowing it to serve education once again. A space will be created here that will support the development of healthcare professions, for which there is high social demand, and will help young people find quality education and employment directly in our region," said Jozef Viskupič, President of the Trnava Self-Governing Region.
The University of St. Cyril and Methodius currently owns the entire building on Hajdóczyho Street in Trnava, which is also undergoing reconstruction. Once completed, it will house the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Mass Media Communication, and part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The university library will be located on the ground floor and in the basement.
The university acquired ownership of the building by purchasing a 2/3 share from the Slovak University of Technology at the end of July. More about other investments by the university Find out HERE.
