Trnava, September 4, 2025 – St. Cyril and Methodius University in Trnava today officially handed over the building on Hajdóczy Street to the contractor. The building, which the university recently purchased for its exclusive ownership, will undergo a complete renovation and, once completed, will serve the Faculty of Mass Media Communication, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Philosophy.
The construction work includes replacing windows, insulating the perimeter walls, dehumidifying the basement, renovating the water, electricity, and heating systems, replacing floor coverings, and, of course, painting the walls. The project also includes the construction of a modern university library, which will become the natural center of academic life.
"This is the largest investment made from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as from the university's own resources. Thanks to this, a modern and unique infrastructure will be created that will serve students and teachers for decades to come," said Katarína Slobodová Nováková, Rector of UCM in Trnava.
After completion of the renovation, the main entrance will be located through KINO OKO, where new representative entrance areas will be created. This solution will architecturally and functionally connect the building on Hajdóczyho Street with the building on Námestie J. Herdu, where UCM currently has its headquarters.
The work is scheduled for completion in June 2026, with a total investment of more than €4 million. The university acquired the building by purchasing a two-thirds share from the Slovak University of Technology at the end of July 2025.
The university acquired the building by purchasing a two-thirds share from the Slovak University of Technology at the end of July 2025. Following the purchase and start of reconstruction of the former SPŠ building in Piešťany, this is the second major investment activity of this kind. The third project will be the extension of a three-story laboratory building for the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Špačince. In addition to construction investments, the university also plans to modernize its software equipment and build its own internal information system for university administration and management.
