Former Rector Jozef Matúš will receive honorary citizenship of Trnava in memoriam
The award is a symbolic thank you from the city of Trnava to a personality who significantly shaped its academic and social life.
Jozef Matúš (1940 – 2017) will receive an award for his extraordinary contribution to the development of the academic environment in Trnava and for his long-term work in the field of higher education.
Jozef Matúš has been associated with UCM since its establishment in 1997. At the Faculty of Mass Media Communication of UCM, he was one of the key figures in its development. He served as head of the Department of Marketing Communication, later as vice-dean for educational activities, and since 2004 he has headed the faculty as dean. In 2010, he was elected rector of the university.
During his career, he was also involved in professional and scientific organizations. For his contribution to the development of higher education, he received several awards, including the medal of the Trnava Self-Governing Region and the title of Doctor honoris causa.
However, his name also resonated outside of academia. He was a prominent official of the FC Spartak Trnava football club, during which his tenure was associated with winning three championship titles.
The award will be presented "In Memoriam" to members of his family in April.
The City Council (MZ) decided to award the award at its February meeting based on the proposals of the Mayor of Trnava at the City Council meeting. The laureates of the Trnava City Council awards will receive their awards at a ceremonial meeting of the City Council on Saturday, April 25.
